About OxTrack

OxTrack is a social impact spinout of the University of Oxford. Our research over 20 years, on circa 100,000 teachers across several countries in Africa and south Asia, enabled the development of psychometrically robust indices of teacher professional knowledge. The tests are hosted on the OxTrack App (available to download on the Apple and Google play stores). Designed to be taken in 4 stages, the tests progressively probe the depth of teacher professional understandings across four knowledge domains: what teachers know about how children learn, and how they use that knowledge; how they teach in heterogeneous classrooms; how they assess learners and provide feedback; and how they use data to monitor student learning progression.

Teachers respond to over 400 open and closed questions based on animated representations of classroom scenarios. This provides us with high-quality, fine-grained insights into teacher proficiencies. We use what we learn about what teachers know, how they understand, and how they apply their knowledge, to train a small language AI model that provides detailed personalised reports and feedback for every individual teacher.

How OxTrack Works

Teachers take four assessments over time, providing a structured and in-depth evaluation of their progress. Each assessment builds on the previous one, gradually probing deeper into teachers’ professional knowledge and expertise.

OxTrack not only measures progress but also actively supports teachers in their professional development.

Every teacher is paired with OxTut, an AI-powered tutor that:

  • Elaborates on teachers’ answers, encouraging deeper professional thinking and reflection.

  • Provides practical suggestions to help teachers apply insights in real-world classroom settings.

  • Recommends evidence-based teaching strategies tailored to each teacher’s strengths and areas for improvement.

  • Offers personalised micro-learning activities, allowing teachers to develop skills through short, targeted exercises.

  • Guides teachers in setting and achieving professional development goals, creating a structured path to expertise.

  • Facilitates reflective practice, prompting teachers to analyze their own teaching experiences and refine their methods.

OxTrack ensures that teachers not only understand their current capabilities but also receive the tools to grow and excel.
